What are Some ways to get Involved?

If you are wanting to get involved in the spread of positive body image, there are several organizations available for you! Down below is a list of several organizations that help promote positive body image:

  1. National Eating Disorders:

“The National Eating Disorders Association (NEDA) is the largest nonprofit organization dedicated to supporting individuals and families affected by eating disorders.

In the United States, 20 million women and 10 million men will suffer from an eating disorder at some point in their lives. Eating disorders are serious, life-threatening illnesses that affect all kinds of people, regardless of gender, ethnicity, size, age, or background. In fact, eating disorders have the second highest mortality rate of all mental health disorders, surpassed only by opioid addiction.

Eating disorders are widely misunderstood illnesses and support options are often inaccessible. As a result, too many people are left feeling helpless, hopeless, and frightened. Through our programs and services, NEDA raises awareness, builds communities of support and recovery, funds research, and puts life-saving resources into the hands of those in need.”

2. National Association of Anorexia Nervosa and Associated Disorders:

“To alleviate suffering and provide support to those struggling with eating disorders.”

3. The Body Positive:

” The Body Positive is a national organization that offers a variety of resources and programming to teach and inspire youth and adults to value their health, unique beauty, and identity so they can use their vital resources of time, energy, and intellect to make positive changes in their own lives and in the world.

Our ultimate goal is to end the harmful consequences of negative body image: eating disorders, depression, anxiety, cutting, suicide, substance abuse, and relationship violence. We are especially concerned about poor body image in teens and young adults. With the inspiration and skills provided by The Body Positive, those who work with us are free to live balanced, joyful, and purposeful lives, and surmount the major obstacles to achieving their academic goals and healthy relationships.

We find great joy in supporting individuals as they practice self-love and create a peaceful relationship with their bodies. We also delight in teaching high school and college students, educators, professionals, and activists to use our engaging curricula to create Be Body Positive programs in their schools, community organizations, and treatment practices. Read below for specifics on how you can bring our work into your life.”

3. Be real campaign:

” We know that low body confidence is damaging people’s lives. It affects everyone – all ages, both sexes – and starts young. It impacts people’s physical and mental health and holds them back in life, stopping them from achieving all that they could.

Our campaign focuses on three areas where we’ll bring about real change.”
